    1. Restaurants, bars, malls to be shut for a week in Pune from today

    Eateries, bars and restaurants in Pune will remain shut for seven days in view of the spike in coronavirus cases of late, a senior official said on Friday. A curfew will be in place across the district from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and malls, cinema halls and places of religious worship will also be shut during this seven-day period, he said.

    2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address poll rallies in West Bengal, Assam

    Narendra Modi will speak at a public meeting at Siliguri in north Bengal at 1 p.m., followed by another rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade ground at 3 p.m. on the same day, BJP leader Mukul Roy said on Sunday.

    3. Karnataka cracks the whip as COVID-19 cases surge

    With the rise in COVID-19 cases during the last one month, the Karnataka government on Friday issued a fresh set of guidelines ordering a ban on use of gyms and swimming pools, holding rallies and protests, while allowing operation of cinemas with only 50% seating capacity. The State government, which had suspended regular classes for VI to IX students in Bengaluru on Thursday, extended the rule to all districts on Friday. However, classes for 10, 11 and 12 students will continue but attendance will not be mandatory.

    4. Heatwave conditions likely in parts of Rajasthan for next 48 hours

    Several parts of Rajasthan are likely to experience heat wave conditions over the next 48 hours with a rise in maximum temperatures, the meteorological department here said on Friday. The met office has issued a yellow alert for Saturday and Sunday in some districts of the State including Kota, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Jalore.

    5. ECI to hear issue of BPF candidate joining BJP amidst polls in Assam

    The Election Commission of India will hold a hearing on Saturday into Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) candidate Rangja Khungur Basumatary crossing over to BJP in the middle of the ongoing Assam Assembly polls. The ECI will hold the hearing at 12 noon today, a source told PTI on Friday.

    U.S. President Joe Biden has ordered that U.S. flags at the White House be lowered to half-staff until April 6 in honour of a U.S. Capitol police officer who was killed on Friday after a man rammed a car into a security checkpoint. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered flags lowered to half-staff on the Capitol.
