1. Campaign ends for T.N., Kerala, Puducherry polls

Campaigning will end at 7 p.m. today, 48 hours before the scheduled elections on April 6. Apart from single-phase polling in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, polling for phase 3 election in West Bengal and third and final phase in Assam is scheduled for April 6.

2. EC bans crowded finale of open campaigning in Kerala

Known as “Kottikalasham” in the local parlance, the finale of the open poll campaigning used to be a jamboree in the southern State in which every political party would try to show off their strength by bringing a maximum number of supporters to add colour to the show.

3. Assam Minister, who threatened two journalists, asked to appear before police

According to the police, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika will give his statement in the police station today.

4. BJP MLAs protesting the suspension of three MLAs from Assembly to hold press conference

BJP MLAs continued their sit-on-dharna on Saturday night protesting the suspension of three of their party colleagues from the Odisha Assembly for hurling slippers and other objects targeting the Speaker’s podium. “We will sit on dharna the whole night under the open sky and will hold a press conference tomorrow…” Leader of Opposition P K Naik said.

5. Facebook data on more than 500 million accounts found online

Details from more than 500 million Facebook users have been found available on a website for hackers. The availability of the data set was first reported by Business Insider. According to that publication, it has information from 106 countries including phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birthdates, and email addresses.

6. Ethiopia says Eritrean troops are pulling out of Tigray

Ethiopian authorities say Eritrean troops have started withdrawing from Tigray, where they have been fighting on the side of Ethiopian forces in a war against the region’s fugitive leaders.

7. Sri Lanka tightens church security ahead of Easter

Security at churches across Sri Lanka have been beefed up ahead of Easter, police said on Saturday, ahead of the second anniversary of the April 2019 coordinated attacks on tourists and minority Christian community in the country in which 270 people, including 11 Indians, were killed.

8. Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan resume talks on big dam amid tensions

A new round of talks between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan began Saturday, officials said, aimed at resolving a years-long dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Ethiopia is building on the Nile River’s main tributary. The three-day talks are taking place in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the current chair of the African Union. The AU is mediating the negotiations.

9. Coronavirus |Latest numbers and developments

The number of positive coronavirus cases India recorded in the last 24 hours stands at 81,182, taking the tally in the country to 1,24,83,811, at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 1,66,047.
