1. Vaccination for eligible jail inmates, detenues in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri to start from Wednesday

The district administration on Tuesday ordered setting up of special vaccination camps for inmates and detenues above 45 years in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district from May 12, officials said. This was announced by District Magistrate Rajouri Rajesh Kumar Shavan during a ground assessment of the facilities at district jail to take stock of steps taken to ensure their safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. Safe home at St Xavier’s University to open on Wednesday

A safe home for COVID-19 patients at St Xavier’s University, New Town will start functioning from Wednesday, while Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials would visit Jadavpur University to ascertain if one of its buildings can be turned into another such facility, officials said on Tuesday.

3. New Assam cabinet reviews COVID-19 situation at its maiden meeting

The new Assam government headed by Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, held its maiden cabinet meeting on the prevailing COVID-19 situation where the 13-member council of ministers discussed in detail, ways and means to rein in the coronavirus surge. The meeting felt the need to impose certain restrictions which will be announced by the State Chief Secretary on Wednesday, spokespersons Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika said.

4. 500-bed ICU centre at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground to be operational from Wednesday

A 500-bed ICU centre attached to the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, which was supposed to start functioning from Tuesday, could not become operational due to some “technical glitches”, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said. The ICU centre has been set up at the Ramlila Ground in front of the Delhi government-run GTB Hospital.

5. Delhi may have to shut 125 vaccination centres from Wednesday: AAP MLA

Delhi has run out of its Covaxin stock for people in the 18-44 age group and as many as 125 vaccination centres will have to be shut from Wednesday if fresh supply is not received, AAP MLA Atishi said. The senior Aam Aadmi Party leader, while presenting the national capital’s ‘Vaccination Bulletin’, said they have been informed that 2,67,690 doses of Covishield will be supplied to Delhi by the Centre by Tuesday evening.

6. SGPC sets up COVID-19 Care Centre in Kapurthala, its third facility in Punjab

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has set up a COVID-19 Care Centre in Kapurthala, its third in Punjab. The centre will start functioning from Wednesday.

7. U.P. may procure millions of vaccine doses from the international market: Officials

The Uttar Pradesh government may directly procure a large amount of international COVID-19 vaccines such as Sputnik V and those developed byModerna and Johnson & Johnson, officials in the State government said on Tuesday. The State government had floated a global tender for 40 million vaccine doses earlier this month to fulfil its huge requirements.

8. Telangana announces 10-day lockdown from Wednesday

The Telangana cabinet has decided to impose a lockdown in the State from 10 a.m. on Wednesday for ten days. “However, there would be relaxation for all the activities from 6 AM to 10 AM daily,” a release from Chief Minister’s office said on Tuesday.

10. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments

India recorded 3,48,389 new COVID-19 cases on May 11. As many as 4,198 new deaths were also registered. The country has so far reported a total of 2,33,40,428 cases and 2,54,225 deaths. Maharashtra reported 40,956 infections, followed by Karnataka (39,510) and Kerala (37,290). Maharashtra also recorded 793 casualties, followed by Karnataka (480) and Delhi (347).
