1. Cyclone Yaas | Very severe cyclonic storm Yaas makes landfall in Odisha

The IMD said that the landfall process of very severe cyclonic storm Yaas has commenced at 9 a.m. The storm was centered about 50 km south-southeast of Balasore in Odisha, it said in a statement on Twitter. The process is expected to take 3 to 4 hours to complete. West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand had evacuated lakhs of people to storm shelters

Samkyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of protesting unions, had announced that farmers will observe May 26 as ‘Black Day’ to mark the completion of six months.

As on May 24, the 7-day rolling averages of reported COVID-19 cases and deaths in 10 of the 20 major States were seen decreasing. In eight of them, the cases and deaths showed a spike.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India recorded in the last 24 hours stands 2,15,442 taking the tally in the country to 2,71,39,310 at the time of publishing this newsletter. The death toll from the disease stands at 3,11,019.
