    1. Protesting J-K transporters decide to resume operations; seek meet with LG

    Private transporters in Jammu and Kashmir have decided to resume operations from Wednesday after keeping their vehicles off the roads for the past 42 days in protest against the government's decision to cap the seating capacity at 50% amid surging COVID-19 cases. However, they sought a meeting with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to sort out their problems to bring the transport industry "back on track".

    2. Court in Dominica to hear Choksi case

    Lawyers for fugitive businessman and diamond dealer Mehul Choksi and the public prosecutor in Dominica filed written submissions at the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on Tuesday, ahead of a hearing on Wednesday on whether he will be deported. As Indian investigators watch the outcome of the hearing carefully, lawyers are expected to argue over whether Dominica is prepared to implement the International Red Corner Notice in India’s favour, and whether his citizenship will be a factor in the court’s decision.

    3. Bombay HC to hear appeal by Goa government against Tejpal acquittal

    The Goa government in its appeal before the Bombay High Court against journalist Tarun Tejpal’s acquittal in a rape case said it was a fit case for retrial, citing the trial court’s lack of understanding of a victim’s post-trauma behaviour and censuring of her character.

    4. Rajasthan to conduct audit of COVID-19 vaccines

    An audit of the COVID-19 vaccines will be conducted in Rajasthan to ensure that the doses are not wasted. The exercise is being undertaken following the reports of alleged wastage of vaccines, though the State government has claimed that the vaccine wastage was limited to 2%, which was below the national average of 6%.

    6. Japanese Olympic athletes get COVID-19 shots on second consecutive day

    Japan started vaccinating Tokyo Games-bound athletes on Tuesday, the Japanese Olympic Committee said. The vaccination of healthy athletes comes as only 2-3% of the general population in Japan has been fully vaccinated. Japanese Olympic Committee officials said about 200 athletes were vaccinated at a training center on the first day of the rollout.

    7. India men’s and women’s cricket squads off to the U.K.

    The women's cricket squad, which has been in quarantine in Mumbai, will be travelling to the United Kingdom with the men's side for a month-long series, on Wednesday. The families of players and support staff of both the Indian men's and women's cricket teams will be allowed to accompany them during their lengthy tour of England this month, a senior BCCI source revealed.

    1. Bengal Chief Secretary retired, to act as Chief Advisor to CM: Mamata

    Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she was appointing West Bengal's Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay as an Advisor for three years effective from Tuesday, after allowing the bureaucrat who was ordered by the central government to report to Delhi, to retire.

    2. BRICS foreign ministers to hold virtual meeting

    Boosting cooperation in effectively dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is expected to figure prominently at a virtual meeting of the foreign ministers of India, China and three other member countries of the BRICS grouping on Tuesday. The foreign ministers are also likely to discuss the need for reforming the multilateral system and ways to enhance cooperation in countering terrorism, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday.

    3. Bihar lockdown extended till June 8, with eased curbs to facilitate business

    This is for the fourth time the Bihar government has extended lockdown from May 5, 2021. The Nitish Kumar government on Monday extended the lockdown till June 8 but eased many restrictions, relieved over the decline in intensity of the COVID-19 second wave.

    The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday extended the relaxations announced in the coronavirus curfew to six more districts from June 1, allowing shops and markets outside the containment zones to open for five days a week.

    Japanese auto major Nissan on Monday said the reopening of its alliance manufacturing plant with Renault in Chennai will be done in a phased and gradual manner while assuring full cooperation to the court-ordered inspection of the unit by the State government slated for Tuesday.

    6. Centre sends reminder to 'now-retired' W.B. Chief Secretary to report in Delhi

    The Centre sent a reminder to West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay who "retired" on Monday to report to the Personnel Ministry in Delhi at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, failing which disciplinary action would be initiated against him, officials said.

    7. Navjot Sidhu likely to meet 3-member party committee in Delhi

    8. Noida starts special vaccination drive for parents with kids aged below 12

    A special anti-Covid vaccination campaign will begin from Tuesday in Noida and Greater Noida for inoculating parents or guardians of children aged 12 or below, officials said on Monday. The special campaign begins from two centres – JP International School in Greater Noida and the Primary Health Centre Bisrakh – where covishield would be administered to beneficiaries, the officials said.
