    1. Kerala to receive 140 tonnes of oxygen today

    The Railways’ Oxygen Express will on Saturday bring in another consignment of 140MT oxygen which will be offloaded at the Vallarpadam railway station today. The new consignment, coming a week after ferrying 118 tonnes of oxygen to the state is being sent by the Centre on a request from the State government.

    2. Stocks depleting, 18-44 group vaccination in Delhi may be temporarily stopped from Monday: AAP MP

    Atishi said that in the last one week, Delhi has already shut 235 of the 368 inoculation centres for this category due to a shortage of vaccines.     With Odisha continuing to report around 10,000 new COVID-19 cases daily, the State government on Tuesday extended the ongoing lockdown with stricter restrictions by two more weeks till on June 1. Chief Secretary S C Mohapatra announced this a day before the completion of the tenure of the first phase of lockdown at 5 am on May 19.

    2. Elgar case: HC likely to hear accused Swamy's bail plea

    The Bombay High Court is likely to hear the medical bail plea of Jesuit priest and tribal rights activist Stan Swamy, an accused in the Elgar Parishad Maoist links case, on Wednesday. The 84-year-old activist, arrested in October 2020, is currently lodged in the Taloja prison in Navi Mumbai and is battling ill health.

    3. Cyclone Tauktae: Power supply to be restored in entire Goa

    The electricity supply in Goa, snapped due to the cyclonic storm Tauktae, will be restored by Wednesday, the State electricity department said on Tuesday. Most areas in Goa plunged into darkness on Sunday after high-speed winds coupled with rains uprooted transmission cables, poles and trees.

    1. AP govt extends COVID-19 curfew till May 31

    The COVID-19 curfew, daily from noon to 6 a.m., that came into force on May 5 was supposed to end on Tuesday. But at a high-level review meeting on the pandemic, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy decided to extend it till month-end.

    1. Cyclone Tauktae | Two killed in Kerala as storm intensifies

    Cyclonic storm Tauktae (pronounced Tau’te) in the Arabian Sea is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by May 16, with wind speeds expected to touch 160 kilometres per hour by May 17. Rain is expected to intensify in coastal Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat over the next 48 hours, causing damage to plantations, thatched houses and roads.

    2. Navy deploys rescue teams in Kerala, IAF puts assets on standby

    The Navy on Saturday deployed relief teams from the Southern Naval Command, which undertook rescue operations in the Cyclone Tauktae affected area of Chellanam coast in Kerala. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has kept 16 transport aircraft and 18 helicopters on operational readiness in peninsular India in preparation for Cyclone Tauktae which is expected to cause very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall along the western coast in the next few days.

    3. West Bengal announces complete lockdown from Sunday

    On Saturday, the West Bengal government announced a complete lockdownfrom Sunday till May 30 to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the State. "We are taking some strict measures to contain the pandemic, starting Sunday 6 am till 6 pm of May 30," Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said.

    1. Body of Kerala woman killed in Palestinian rocket attack to be brought home on May 15

    The body of Soumya Santhosh from Kerala, who was killed in a Palestinian rocket attack in Israel on May 11, will be brought to Kerala on Saturday. Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan said on Friday that the mortal remains were being repatriated from Israel to Kerala via New Delhi.

    2. China lands spacecraft on Mars

    A Chinese spacecraft carrying the country's first Mars rover has touched down on the red planet, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) confirmed on Saturday morning. The Tianwen-1, which consists of an orbiter, a lander and a rover, was launched on July 23, 2020, it said.

    3. Australia resumes repatriation flights from India for stranded citizens amidst disastrous virus spread

    The repatriation flights facilitated by the Australian government for its stranded citizens in India resumed from Friday, according to Foreign Minister Marise Payne. Mr.Payne said that a flight on Friday departed from Sydney to pick up Australian passengers in New Delhi before arriving back in Darwin on Saturday.

    4. Vaccination for 45-plus age group stopped for three days in Gujarat

    Inoculation of people in the age group 45 and above in Gujarat was halted for three days from Friday following a revision in the COVID-19 vaccination schedule after the Centre's decision to increase the gap between two doses of Covishield, the State government said. However, during these three days, vaccination will continue for people in the age group of 18 to 44 years who have already registered themselves and received SMSes, said a State government release.

    5. Coronavirus lockdown | Shops in Tamil Nadu to close by 10 am from Saturday

    Shops selling provisions, groceries and meat in Tamil Nadu would be allowed to function only from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. from Saturday, as part of intensified COVID-19 lockdown measures that will be in place till May 24 morning. They were earlier allowed to remain open between 6 a.m. and 12 noon. Even e-commerce companies, which were allowed to deliver provisions, vegetables and meat, would be allowed to operate only till 10 am.

    6. Vaccination suspended in Mumbai for two days due to cyclone warning

    The Mumbai civic body on Friday decided to suspend its COVID-19 vaccination drive for the next two days in view of the warning about cyclone Tauktae. There would be no inoculation on May 15 and 16, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation tweeted. Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani told PTI that it was a precautionary measure as cyclone Tauktae is forecast to pass close to the city.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked the authorities and people to follow the guidelines issued by the State disaster management authority.
