    1. HC rebukes Delhi government over black marketing of oxygen cylinders and medicines

    The Delhi High Court came down heavily on the Delhi government over its "failure" to check black marketing of oxygen cylinders and crucial medicines needed by COVID-19 patients and said if it cannot handle the situation, it will ask the Centre to take over gas refiller units as it can’t let people die. The court directed the government to file an affidavit on the status of oxygen stocks available with gas refillers by Wednesday morning.

    2. 15 BRO workers killed in Sumna avalanche from Jharkhand

    Talks have been held with the Jharkhand government for handing over the bodies to their families and it is likely to be done by Wednesday through the BRO, Chamoli District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria said.

    3. SC asks U.P. to submit medical records of journalist Siddique Kappan

    A Bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and A.S. Bopanna asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the State government, to file the medical records of journalist Siddique Kappan who was jailed last year by Wednesday. Kerala Union of Working Journalists alleged that Kappan has been chained to a cot in the hospital he was admitted to after falling in the bathroom and later testing positive for COVID-19.

    4. HC tells Bengal to demolish illegal constructions on Teesta river bed at Jalpaiguri

    The Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court Tuesday asked the West Bengal government to demolish illegal constructions, including pubs and restaurants, on the river bed of Teesta in front of residential buildings of the judges at Jalpaiguri within 24 hours. Justice Bharadwaj asked the district magistrate, the SP and chief medical officer, Jalpaiguri to file reports on the matter before the court on Wednesday.

    5. Iran nuclear talks resume in Vienna amid new complications

    World powers resumed high-level talks in Vienna on Tuesday focused on bringing the United States back into the nuclear deal with Iran, in their first session since comments surfaced from the Iranian foreign minister alleging that Russia once tried to scupper the pact. China's delegate Wang Qun told reporters that discussions would continue on Wednesday.

    6. Tokyo Olympic organisers to hold 5-party meeting, brief on 'playbooks'

    Tokyo Olympic organisers will hold a five-party meeting on version two of the "playbooks", which serve as a guide for COVID-19 countermeasures during the Games, followed by a Tokyo 2020 news conference and a joint press briefing by Tokyo, IOC and IPC officials. The five parties are the Tokyo 2020 organising committee, the Government of Japan, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

    1. Lockdown for 14 days in Karnataka from today

    The Karnataka Cabinet on Monday announced a partial lockdown across the State for 14 days starting from 9 p.m. today. Only shops providing essential services would be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the next two weeks, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa announced soon after a Cabinet meeting.

    2. SC to hear Vedanta plea

    Vedanta has objected in the Supreme Court to allow Tamil Nadu government run its oxygen plant situated in the State. The court had urged the Tamil Nadu government or expert authorities to take over the plant and start the manufacture of medical oxygen to tide over the life-threatening shortage amid the pandemic across the country. The court is scheduled to hear the case in April 27.

    3. Oxygen Express with 70 tonnes of oxygen reaches Delhi

    The first Oxygen Express train for Delhi carrying around 70 tonnes of the life-saving gas reached the national capital early Tuesday morning, officials said. This oxygen will now be disbursed by the Delhi government to various hospitals, they said.

    4. Modi speaks to Biden about COVID-19; U.S. orders for vaccine filters diverted to India

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation on Monday with assurances exchanged on smoothening out issues related to supply chains for vaccines for COVID-19 and the latter affirming that the U.S. would be supporting India’s efforts to come to grips with the massive second wave of the pandemic. Earlier in the day, the Biden administration has diverted its pending orders of vaccine filters to India’s vaccine manufacturers, according to White House’s COVID-19 Supply Manager Tim Manning.

    5. WHO sending help to India as virus surges

    The head of the World Health Organisation called the recent surge in coronavirus in India “beyond heartbreaking” and said the UN agency has dispatched critical supplies to the subcontinent, including thousands of portable oxygen machines.

    6. Myanmar insurgent group says it has captured military base near Thai border

    A prominent ethnic rebel group attacked and captured a military base in eastern Myanmar near the Thai border early Tuesday morning, an official from the group said. "Our troops captured the Burmese military camp," Karen National Union's head of foreign affairs Padoh Saw Taw Nee told AFP, adding that the fighting took place around 5 am.

    7. U.S. Supreme Court to hear appeal on expanding gun rights

    The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal to expand gun rights in the United States in a New York case over the right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense.     1. Expect national plan from Centre on supply of oxygen, drugs for COVID-19 patients: SC

    A Bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde issued a notice to the Centre for Friday and sought a “national plan” on issues including supply of oxygen and essential drugs for treatment of patients infected with the virus. The SCBA, meanwhile, moved the SC, saying High Courts are best suited to deal with COVID-19 issues at local levels.

    2. SC agrees to hear Vedanta plea of free oxygen supply

    The Supreme Court termed the COVID-19 situation as almost a “national emergency” while agreeing to hear Vedanta’s plea for opening of its Sterlite copper unit at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu on the ground that it would produce thousand tonnes of oxygen and give it free of charge to treat patients. "We will hear (plea of Vedanta) on Friday," the Bench said in the hearing conducted through video conferencing.

    3. Protocol for psychological rehabilitation of COVID patients to be released today

    The Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), an autonomous body of the Ministry of Ayush, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru and the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) have come together to develop a protocol for the psychosocial rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients.

    4. Five municipal councils to go for polls in Goa

    Election for five municipal councils in Goa would be held on Friday with 402 candidates in the fray. The State Election Commission will hold elections for Mapusa, Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem and Quepem municipal councils. Results of the polls will be announced on April 26.

    5. Prototype of first U.S. dollar coins going up for auction

    A piece of copper that was struck by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia in 1794 and was a prototype for the fledgling nation's money will go up for auction on Friday.

    6. Second day of virtual climate summit

    U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. would cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 50%-52% by 2030 relative to 2005 levels, in a clean break with the Trump administration policies on climate action on the first day of the two-days virtual climate summit on Thursday. "When we close this summit on Friday, we will unmistakably communicate ... the U.S. is back," he said. The summit was attended by leaders from the world's biggest emitters.

    7. MI seeks consistency; Punjab eyes return to winning ways

    Mumbai Indians would be aiming to address their batting woes to achieve consistency while Punjab Kings would be desperate to arrest their overall slide when the two sides clash in an IPL match in Mumbai on Friday.
