Ms. Mamata will sit on a dharna on Tuesday in protest against the Election Commission order to ban her from campaigning for next 24 hours.

2. Week-long ‘corona curfew’ imposed in Bhopal city

A week-long ‘corona curfew’ was imposed in Bhopal city on Monday night to curb the rising cases of COVID-19 in the Madhya Pradesh capital. The curfew came into force at 9 pm and will remain effective till 6 am on April 19, an official order said.

3. Expert panel recommends granting approval to COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V for emergency use in India

Russia’s COVID vaccine — Sputnik V — has been recommended for emergency use authorisation in India following a meeting of the Subject Expert Committee on Monday, The Hindu has confirmed. If approved by the Drug Controller General of India, Sputnik-V would be the third vaccine to be made available in India.

4. French foreign minister to begin 3-day India visit on Tuesday

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will begin a three-day visit to India on Tuesday to boost cooperation in a range of key areas, including in the Indo-Pacific region. Announcing the visit, the Ministry of External affairs said it will pave the way for further strengthening of the bilateral partnership across the trade, defence, climate, migration and mobility, education and health.

5. BJP to hold 2,000 small ‘potho sabhas’ in and around Kolkata

Seeking to woo voters in Kolkata and its neighbouring areas, BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch a massive public outreach campaign from Tuesday during which more than 2,000 street corner meetings will be held in over 40 assembly seats, party leaders said on Monday.

6. Temples in Delhi opting for restricted ‘darshan’ facilities for devotees during Navratri

Amid a rising number of COVID-19 cases, major temples in Delhi have decided on restricted “darshan” facilities for devotees with some of the shrines offering e-passes during the Navratri that begins on Tuesday.

7. Ramzan month to begin from April 13

The holy month of Ramzan will begin from April 13, Dakshina Kannada district Kazi Al-Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliar announced on Monday. The chief secretary of Zeenath Baksh central Juma Masjid Idgah mosque Mohammed Hanif too made the announcement through a press release.

8. Hero Motors Company to launch new hi-end export-oriented unit

Hero Motors Company will unveil its new hi-end export-oriented manufacturing plant at the Hero E Cycle Valley at Dhanansu on the outskirts of the city here on Tuesday. The opening of the new plant marks the first phase of operationalisation of the Hero E Cycle Valley.

Bus services were largely hampered for the sixth consecutive day in Karnataka, as the indefinite strike by employees of the road transport corporations on wage related issues continued on Monday, even as some workers reported for duty.

10. Vaishno Devi temple ready to welcome pilgrims for ‘Navratri’ celebrations under COVID-19 shadow

Adorned with thousands of multi-hued flowers, the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi here is all set to welcome pilgrims from Tuesday for the nine-day celebrations of ‘Navratri’ under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. Flowers like roses, Dahlias, orchids and marigolds have been used to deck up the shrine nestled in Trikuta hills, officials said.
