1. SC seeks report on supply of 700 MT oxygen to Delhi

The Supreme Court on May 5 ordered the Centre to burn the midnight oil and prepare a “comprehensive plan” for the supply of 700 MT of life-saving oxygen to Delhi on a daily basis. The plan, which has to be handed over to the court in the form of a tabulated chart at 10.30 a.m. on May 6 should identify the sources of supply of oxygen to Delhi; the provisions for transport and logistical arrangements, including distribution points for oxygen.

2. No member of the U.S. delegation at risk, says official

After two members of the Indian delegation tested positive for COVID-19, a State Department official has said no member of the American delegation attending the G-7 meeting in the UK is at risk.

3. Mamata Banerjee imposes fresh curbs in West Bengal

Ms. Banerjee said that metro rail and state road transport services will be curtailed by 50% from Thursday, as part of the newly imposed set of restrictions.

4. Lockdown-like restrictions in Sikkim till May 16, borders to be sealed

Lockdown-like restrictions were imposed in Sikkim till May 16 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, as per an official order issued on Wednesday. The restrictions, which include the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CRPC, will come into effect on Thursday, it said.

5. Mar Thoma Church former head’s funeral on Thursday

Dr. Philipose Mar Christostm, Metropolitan Emeritus of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian church, passed away on Wednesday. He was 104. Official sources said the Metropolitan Emeritus was ailing for a while and passed away at a private hospital in Kumaband around 1.15 a.m. The funeral will be held on Thursday.

The Englishmen were the first ones out with eight of them landing in London, while the Australians awaited an escape to Maldives as the now-suspended IPL‘s foreign recruits charted their way back home assisted by the BCCI on Wednesday.

8. Coronavirus | Latest numbers and developments

For the second time since the outbreak, India reported over 4 lakh new COVID-19 cases with 4,12,095 until 11.30 p.m. on May 5, which is also the highest single-day spike. The country recorded 3,971 deaths, the highest single-day toll. The cumulative tally stood at 2,10,41,370 cases and 2,29,573 deaths.
