1. Sonia Gandhi to discuss COVID-19 situation with party MPs

The Congress president has convened a meeting of all MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Friday to discuss the second wave of coronavirus and evolve a political strategy to deal with the situation.

2. Stalin swearing-in on Friday

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday appointed DMK president M.K. Stalin as the Chief Minister and invited him to form the government in the State on May 7. The DMK president will take oath as Tamil Nadu CM at 9 a.m. today.

3. Rangasamy to be sworn in as Pondy CM on Friday

All India N. R Congress chief N. Rangasamy will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory for the fourth time. Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan will administer the oath of office to Mr. Rangasamy at a simple function to be held at Raj Nivas around 1.20 p.m.

Amid rising COVID-19 cases, the Karnataka government is set to take some stringent measures, including a tough lockdown on Friday evening, sources close to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa hinted.

5. NIS to start Siddha COVID Care Centre with 100 beds at Tambaram on Friday

The National Institute of Siddha (NIS) in Chennai and Chengalpattu district administration are all set to revive the Siddha COVID-19 Care Centre at the institute from Friday to treat mild and moderately infected patients. The hospital authorities have readied 100 beds at the CCC on the sprawling campus at Tambaram Sanatorium.

Former Vice-Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal P.M. Ramachandran, passed away on Thursday at his residence in the city after a brief illness. He held a number of posts in the Indian Air Force (IAF). As the Vice-Chief of the Air Force, he was in charge of the operational deployment of India’s short range ballistic missile Prithvi.
